The portable version may have problems starting on macOS Sierra due to new Gatekeeper protection features.

For Ubuntu, run the following commands to install FS-UAE and configure it for automatic updates:

The above packages include (most) libraries required to run. Your Linux distribution only has to provide glibc and OpenGL. The packages work on Ubuntu 16.04 and newer, and should work fine on other recent Linux distributions.

The following plugins can be used with FS-UAE. In the future, plugins will probably automatically be downloaded on demand by FS-UAE Launcher, but for now, manual installation is needed.

To install, download the desired plugin zip file and extract the folder within to your Documents/FS-UAE/Plugins folder (You should end up with Documents/FS-UAE/Plugins/PluginName). Create the Plugins folder first if it is missing. If you are using the portable version of FS-UAE, you extract to the Plugins folder in the portable folder instead).

This plugin provides support for reading IPF floppy disk images, and works on Windows, macOS and Linux.

  Amiga Forever contains a key file which is not directly part of the .msi, but written upon first start of Amiga Forever. Without this key file, FS-UAE cannot understand the scrambled ROM files. So, this is awkward for macOS users unfortunately, and not something I can help directly with.
  
  Maybe you qualify for an update to the latest version? With that one I believe you also get a download link to an .iso file which contains both the ROMs and the key file. Alternatively, you can try to run Amiga Forever via Wine if that is possible on your system, or borrow a Windows computer (or Linux computer with Wine) and install Amiga Forever there.

      Alright, I think I see what the problem is. I only provide packages for up to Fedora 31 (because Fedora 32 building isn’t supported on the build service I’m using until the Fedora 32 release is out).
      The python3-lhafile file contains a binary python3 extension which depends on python 3.7. And Fedora 32 comes with python 3.8, so this package cannot be installed.
      
      There will be Fedora 32 packages as soon as possible. In the meantime, I recommend the generic Linux binaries from https://fs-uae.net/download#linux. These can be run from the unpacked archive, from anywhere, no installation needed, and should work fine on Fedora 32.

  Hi, I have managed to reproduce one problem where the Launcher will not start. This might not be the same as your problem. When starting on macOS 10.15 for the first time, macOS will ask if you allow the launcher to access the Documents folder. If you deny this, FS-UAE Launcher will not start (and will not be able to write a log file either).
  
  Please try to go to System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Privacy -> Files and Folders, and make sure “Documents Folder” access is allowed for FS-UAE Launcher.

    I know it would be a slow way to emulate an amiga in DosBox. however it can still be a very useful tool, especially for old amiga Public Domain productivity software. So for example the ability to see a spreadsheet or a text file would be possible, even if it was a very slow emulation. The point is it would be for a very easy way to do so if on wanted to run an amiga emulator in DosBox. And example might be EasyCalc the PublicDomain spreadsheet software for the A500 in a 320×40 resolution. Much appreciated. Not looking for fancy frame-rate games or HAM video. Being able to display a 32 colour picture 320×240 in DeluxePaint would be nice but not essential. Likewise, being able to run WordWorth Word-Processor with a very slow amiga processor and say 4meg to 8meg of RAM would be nice (and maybe the ability to mount an a570 CDROM for ISO files). I know about PCem and all that. I know there are better ways but I’m not looking to do any of that (even though it’d be cool). Just looking to run an a500 emulator (at a slow speed) in DosBox. Not looking for WHDLoad. Cheers.

Now I am facing a couple of maybe more technical issues, where is the proper place to report these and get some help?

1. When switching to full screen then back to windowed mode, the 3.0.0 version keeps the full screen picture, cropped to its bottom left corner, tried with multiple games. The 2.8.3 version doesn’t have this issue.

2. Randomly, mouse becomes unusable: pointer travels full emulator screen, while moving 3 pixels in Windows 10. Affects both versions.

3. For some games, when loading save states, even from portable version, error message “Directory: ‘c://users//[username]//appdata//local//temp//fs-uae-vlqgns_4//DH0’ not found, mounting as…” is displayed, on black screen. Indeed this directory doesn’t exist. I was previously able to load save states without any issue, and once this error message appears, no more save state for that game would load, ever.

4. I noticed a couple of alphabetical ordering issues in “Configs and Games” list, e.g. game “The Lion King” appears between K and M games. Also games and configs seem to use different ordering logic, e.g. if you create configs having exact same names as games for Lotus 1/2/3, the 6 lines appear in mixed up orders.

I will doublecheck if make install does what it is supposed to. You can also run FS-UAE directly from the source folder: ./fs-uae. FS-UAE will load resources from fs-uae.dat, so it seems this is not found. The log file will probably tell you where FS-UAE tried looking for the file.

      Yes, if you download the development version, you can use a favorites list 🙂 There is no UI to add/remove favorites in the the Launcher/Arcade yet. For now, favorite games can be added/removed at https://openretro.org/user/favorites and the launcher will sync down this list when updating the game database. But you can filter by favorites in Launcher/Arcade, and you can also configure FS-UAE Arcade to start with favorites filter pre-selected.

I can’t find any older version download so I’m kinda stuck. The older dev kinda works (it takes a minute to boot up).

  Regarding lag, 0.5 sec is extremely high. Perhaps he is using a wireless connection with very high packet loss or something? I recommend playing with wired ethernet, since this type of netplay code is very sensitive to packet loss.

    That is the setup for the Amiga drive in a real Mac with 4 intenal drives. The Amiga drive comes in last as the 5th device.
    Do not wonder if the Mac kind of rejects the Amiga HD Drive (IDE in a USB case) when connecting it. Just click “ignore”
    and the drive (filesystem) will be ignored but it is still connected. Open the OSX terminal and type “diskutil list” to see it:
    That’s what the “diskutil list” did show:
    /dev/disk5 #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: *1.6 GB disk5
    
    That’s what i put in the config file after the “floppy” and “cdrom” entries:
    hard_drive_0 = /dev/disk5

One possibility is that some firewall/anti-virus/security software is interfering with the operation of FS-UAE Launcher.   FS-UAE is not signed with an official Apple Developer key, and recent OS X versions will display a security warning when you try to open it (without any way to override it). But you can instead right-click the app icon and click “Open” in the context menu. The warning will still appear but now you can choose to open the program anyway. This will be remembered by OS X, so you can subsequently open it normally.

UAE on ARM is missing JIT though – maybe a bounty could be created for a JIT compiler for ARM platforms for the UAE family, taking Amiga emulation to the next level. Then my dream of an accelerated Amiga 1200 (with latest WinUAE core) in my pocket could become a reality. 🙂

  One reason for this is because RaspberryPi is ARM-based. I have made some changes to allow more code to be compiled for ARM, so it is possible that the development version will get you further. Even then, you will need (I think) to replace the OpenGL code with OpenGL ES code, so a simple compile will probably not do for the PI.
