Yes they do, but from Fedora 17 and onwards, you need to install an extra package to get joysticks working (at all, this is not specific to FS-UAE):
sudo yum install kernel-modules-extra
Yes, you can force FS-UAE to open in its own fullscreen space by adding this to advanced settings in the Launcher:
SDL_VIDEO_MAC_FULLSCREEN_SPACES = 1
Note: There be may usability issues when FS-UAE quits and tries to return to the Launcher/Arcade when fullscreen spaces are used.
Yes, it is possible, but a bit awkward to setup. See keyboard for more information.
FIXME: There is a new, better way to add extra keyboard-emulated joysticks. Needs documentation!
This is usually caused by a driver problem or having conflicting software installed. Please see [windows.md](Windows Notes) for solutions to some problems which has been reported, your problem might be mentioned there!
If you start with the default settings and without a (supported) joystick connected, the cursor keys will be used to emulate an Amiga joystick and will therefore not function as Amiga cursor keys. You can either connect a joystick to your computer, or disable the joystick emulation:
joystick_port_1 = nothing
You can also do this from the GUI menu (F12) and in FS-UAE Launcher.
This happens when FS-UAE is unable to find the find the proper kickstart for the Amiga model your trying to emulate and defaults back to the built-in AROS kickstart. Please verify that your configuration correctly points to a valid kickstart file.
Make sure it’s plugged in and connected before starting FS-UAE. If it’s still not working, read the documentation on on how to configure your controller, you may have to create a configuration file for it. This is easily done for you via FS-UAE Launcher -> Settings -> Joysticks & Gamepads. Just double-click on your device to start configuring it.
If you've tried combining F12 with Fn and/or Cmd, and it still does not work, you can either:
To bind the menu action to a key combination, you can add the following to advanced settings:
keyboard_key_mod_m = action_menu
Then you should be able to use Mod+M to open/close the menu. Mod means Cmd on Macs and Alt on other computers.
See the documentation page for FS-UAE Launcher.
I have received several questions regarding whether I will port FS-UAE to other systems, including:
I am sure porting to many of these systems could be an interesting challenge, but in the end, it comes down to this: I can choose to spend (much) time on such ports, or I can spend time improving FS-UAE for the already supported platforms (Windows, macOS and Linux). I have many features I still want to implemented, so I think my time is better spent improving FS-UAE and developing related software for these platforms.
But because I have Android devices myself, and will likely continue to use Android in years to come, a future Android port is not unlikely :)
I am not interested in developing FS-UAE for closed systems such as iOS and Windows RT, where the only way to install software is via the official application store, and where Apple and Microsoft, respectively, unilaterally decides whether to allow software distribution or not.
The Zorro III memory size setting is only respected when emulating a CPU with a 32-bit address bus, for instance by using the A1200/020 or the A4000/040 model.
amiga_model = A1200/020
Or you can override the CPU only, for example with:
cpu = 68020
** FIXME: THIS INFORMATION IS OUTDATED **
To use action replay with FS-UAE, you need an action replay rom file and you need to configure a key or button to activate the cartridge. Example:
uae_cart_file = full/path/to/rom/file The default shortcut to invoke the cartridge is Alt/Cmd+A (or F12+A).
On my MacBook Pro with MacOs 10.11.6 FS-UAE does not detect my Logitech F310 controller. The system profiler correctly identifies it, but it is not show in the controller list. If I go to settings in FS-UAE the list is empty. Any idea what the issue might be?
Have you made sure to use the device in “normal” HID mode? There is a switch on the device to change between a normal HID mode (I think it is labelled “D”) and Xinput (“X”) mode.
Hi,
how can I search for incomplete sets (for example a game whose adf has been found but not its ips or whd); note, it is different from have:false…
how to extract a list of all the “interesting” files that the scanner have found (those that are useful for the fs-uae database)
how to rescan just the FS-UAE\download folder (when you have a single new rom to scan for)
Thanks
Gian

Hi Frode!
I just noticed that when donating via paypal – the amount is marked as “purchase” but not as “donation”. I was not able to change that myself – so probably you can change it in your settings and save some bucks?
BR, Amix.
Hi, thanks for the donation – and the concern. It doesn’t seem like anything is deducted from the amounts paid with the current setup.
Good morning,my cpu is over 200%(quadcore)
Is not possible to set a idle cpu?
Here ‘s my config
amiga_model = A4000/OS4
cdrom_drive_count = 1
cdrom_drive_0 = 2.ISO
chip_memory = 2048
cpuboard_flash_file = cyberppc.rom
floppy_image_0 = OS41 Boot.adf
graphics_card = picasso-iv
hard_drive_0 = amiga.vhd
hard_drive_0_controller = ide0
hard_drive_0_type = rdb
kickstart_file =Kickstart v3.1 rev 40.70 (1993)(Commodore)(A4000).rom
uae_a2065 = slirp
uae_cachesize = 8192
uaegfx_card = 1
zorro_iii_memory = 131072
The idle setting for m68k emulation can be specified with cpu_idle (https://github.com/FrodeSolheim/fs-uae/blob/master/doc/options/cpu_idle), I haven’t looked at idle settings for PPC, but I think there’s an internal uae_ option for it. Btw, don’t use JIT (uae_cachesize) together with PPC emulation!
Hi Frode, loving the improvements you have made with this, I have a question for you, been trying to get the online amiga 2 player going but when i connect to my friends , connection it says i could not find hard_drive_0 for ……… And then when i try to start the game that my friend has started it says that the host needs to go first when he already has done please help?
Hi, what game are you trying to start, and what is the *full* error message (regarding the hard drive)? FS-UAE Launcher will not allow to start the game if it detects that you haven’t got identical configuration, I’m guessing this is what happens (but I cannot tell without seeing all the messages).
Is it possible to post you a screen shot somewhere we were trying to do this with the exact same whdload files, tried all the lotus turbo challenges but as soon as i connected to his server group it said i had problems and that was before trying to play the games which led to further error messages
Yes, you can post anywhere. What about imgur.com? You can post without login there.
Thank u, here are the screenshots f the issues i was having with online play

OK, it simply looks like “Loki” has selected a game which has files that “NATE” hasn’t – or at least that the files are not indexed in the NATE’s file database. There are two ways to handle this:
– Make sure all players have the required files scanned by the file database function and/or online game variants scanned.
– Or make sure all players manually select the exact same config.
FS-UAE Launcher will prevent you from starting a game as long as the configs are not matching, for example if you have different floppies in the floppy drives.
For PPC, you can try uae_ppc_cpu_idle with one of the following values: disabled, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, max
Thanks for all answers
Did you think is better for amd64 user to use 64bit+ppc emulation without jit?
I think 32bit+jit was faster than all also with ppc emulation
Hi, if you PPC emulation you should probably turn off m68k JIT, as JIT will affect the synchronization between UAE < -> PPC.
Hi guys!
Sorry for my bad English…
FS-UAE is realy amazing, thank you for this cool software.
My question is about the game database:
I have the ADF for “shadow of the beat I, II and III”.
I dowloaded the game database, “SOB I” and “SOB III” are visible with the joystick icon in the gamelist but “SOB II” is not visible… (No yellow arrow or joystick).
Did I miss something ?
Hi, please see http://oagd.net/faq for an answer (short version is, you haven’t got the exact disks the database expects).
What are the general troubleshooting guidelines to follow to get x game to work with fs-uae:
All thing being equal, you do not have a corrupted game (eg downloaded from original site). Is there any standard form to follow ?
1. Impossible Mission does the “rainbow effect” at start up, after you select “weather you want unlimited time etc” at the start up sequence, but doesn’t go on.
Hi, most non-AGA games will work with the default A500 model, especially if you only use one floppy drive. What game disks are you using (name of ADFs, or link to where you downloaded them from?).
So, it should work “out of the box” ? (aka, if game don’t work, try 1MB Chip) ?, unless of course game explicitly requires more.
The game is Impossible Mission II.

Does FS-UAE work with multiple disks in a single zip ? or must you extract first ? (basically the same thing as *.rp9 images would have too)
That game works by just putting the disk in the first floppy drive, using the default Amiga 500 model with no customizations. Does it not work for you? What happens?
Hi,
Thanks for an amazing program !
The oagd integration makes life really easy too, although I must be missing something about the way manual oagd downloads are supposed to work :
FS-UAE insists that I download the ADF to FS-UAE/Downloads (I’m on a Mac).
Would it be possible to simply just reuse the list of folders in “Scan & Indexing” instead ?
I have a big collection of ADFs inside an emulation folder, and if possible I’d like not to have to move them under Downloads, and I thought the list of folders to be scanned was exactly for that
Thanks !
Hi, you don’t really have to put the files under the “Downloads” folder. The main reasons that FS-UAE Launcher tells you to do this:
– It is easier to communicate (“put it there”)
– FS-UAE Launcher only has to rescan that folder, instead of having to rescan all the other directories (so it can find the newl added disks faster).
So feel free to put the downloaded files inside one of your other directories on the folder scan list. But then you also have to use the full “Scan files and configurations” function to find the newly added files!
(Btw, if the Launcher tells you to download the files, this indicates that they are not already found on your system at all. If you already have the disks scanned, it should not tell you to download them!).
I’m starting to think that Amiga emulation is some sort of elaborate prank. I can’t say I’m familiar at all with the original computer, but in all the years I’ve tried various emulators and front-ends, I have not once been actually able to play an Amiga game. They either 1) stay on the first screen, logo screen, or title screen 2) fail to start after the title screen, or 3) if the actual game DOES start, I can’t play it. In all three situations, the game does NOT respond to any keyboard input. In all three, any keyboard presses that do register make absolutely no sense (Page Down??).
I’m not a newbie to old game software. Every other system I’ve tried, even ones I’ve never played before, I can successfully run and play. Nintendo, Sega, MAME, DOSBox- I’ve never had any problem that I couldn’t solve. Amiga (and to a lesser extent C64) is the one exception.
Well, I can at least confirm that Amiga emulation works 🙂
But emulating/configuring the Amiga is a bit more difficult than emulating consoles, since there are so many models/variants to choose from, and some games have specific requirements (i.e. only works with older Amiga models for example). Additionally, there are many cracked version of games floating around the Internet which may further break compatibility with some Amiga models, and some disk images are also bad.
The most compatible configuration to use is the following:
– Use the default Amiga 500 model in FS-UAE (This is an A500 model with 0.5 MB chip RAM + 0.5 MB pseudo-fast RAM).
– Only use one floppy drive (using more floppy drives makes less memory available to games, causing games to fail due to too little available memory).
– Use a joystick in the Amiga joystick port (either a real joystick or keyboard cursor keys (*)).
– Use a mouse in the Amiga mouse port (many cracked games require you to press a mouse button to continue past the “cracktro” screens).
These are of course just general recommendations since I do not know which game(s) you are trying to get working 🙂
(*) Remember that if you use the cursor keys to emulate an Amiga joystick, you will not be able to press the “Amiga cursor keys”, which a few games may require. In this case using a real joystick is recommended, or perhaps using “no host device” in the joystick port if the game does not require joystick input at all.
If you want more specific help, you must be more specific about what game you are trying to get working, how it fails, how you have configured FS-UAE, and so on 🙂
This is on Amiga 4000 with the joystick disabled (the 500 didn’t run most of these). I don’t know if any of these need a controller or not… I have a Wii Classic Controller that I’ve been using, but I can’t configure it at all.
Brian the Lion
Page Down = Enter/Start??
glitches when game starts (bad copy?)
Count Duckula
won’t move past title screen, doesn’t respond to keyboard
Goofy’s Railway Express
…I’m just not sure how to play this.
Great Giana Sisters
won’t move past crack screen, doesn’t respond to keyboard
Impossamole
doesn’t run at all- glitchy rainbow-color screen
Mickey Mouse
“Software Failure” error
Pinball Brain Damage
quits to AmigaDOS after crack screen
Pinball Hazard
insists on inserting disc 2 even when inserted in launcher
Pinball Mania
works (but only after disabling joystick)
Pink Panther
game starts, doesn’t respond to keyboard
Ruff and Reddy in the Space Adventure
won’t move past Amiga boot screen, doesn’t respond to keyboard
All right, let’s take Great Giana Sisters as an example. You should definitively use Amiga 500 rather than Amiga 4000 with Great Giana Sisters. What is the filename of the ADF (I’m just want to know which version you have).
(Or if you know how to find the SHA-1 checksum of the Great Giana Sisters .adf, that would help too).
Hi, i downloaded the amiga forever2014 but it’s just msi format and the launcher cannot start this
file. I’ve an imac so what to do?
thanks for info
That was unfortunate – earlier versions were distributed as .iso CD images. If you upload the .msi somewhere (some kind of private sharing) and send me an URL to the file, I can send you back the most useful files from the MSI (Kickstart/ROM images, workbench disks). If interested, send file share information to frode@fs-uae.net (and perhaps I can make some kind of automated service for this at one point).
I get consistent segfaults when launching fs-uae.
Here is the backtrace (looks like it’s related to Nvidia driver):

It is a known problem (but looks like a problem in the nVIDIA driver). Please see http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?p=965560&postcount=9 for more information and a workaround/fix!
